ABOUT MUDDY BOOTS & COFFEE
Angela Watson is a master coach trainer, executive coach, and championship dog sport competitor.
Born in the West Midlands, I’m a go getting, make things happen kind of woman now in Life’s 3rd Act. My competitive obedience journey was not a straight line.

At 40 life looked good on paper, with a solid NHS career, a newly renovated house, and all the usual markers of a successful 21s century career woman. Then one Tuesday the life I thought I had, changed over dinner. I built a new life from the ruins of the old one, and since that day, I’ve made it my goal to make the most of each day and help others do the same.

Somewhere in the rubble, dogs came into my life, and through them I discovered the world of dog training – starting with pet dog training, then rapidly ramping it up to Competitive Obedience trials, and now here we are and Berty is qualified to compete in Royal Kennel Club Competitive Obedience Championship C (Ticket). A dream come true.

My love for competitive obedience has seen me driving all over the UK in recent years including Suffolk, Somerset, the West Midlands, and Devon – competing at shows and sometimes teaching workshops – helping to bring a renewed sense of confidence to obedience folks who just KNOW their dogs have got what it takes. That means a lot of miles. A lot of weekends away. And a lot of accommodation bookings.
I’m known in the dog sport community for finding great places to stay. It started for me in a tent with the dogs. Then a van. Over time I realised that a proper bed, a hot shower, and a welcoming place aren’t luxuries – they’re essential.
I started Muddy Boots & Coffee because finding somewhere genuinely dog-friendly can be challenging. After a long day at a dog show or teaching, I don’t want to worry whether the gate shuts properly, if there’s a hole in the fence, or if muddy paws will ruin the carpet. I want somewhere straightforward, secure, and comfortable where we can unwind.
It became clear that other dog owners like me were struggling to find suitable places and were not happy with the restrictions, lack of transparency, or hidden fees imposed on our travelling companions.
Having looked at this from both sides as a dog owner and from a host’s perspective I’ve realised that not all dog friendly stays are created equal. I will be giving a shout out to the ones who genuinely welcome dogs and their owners. We need to make it easier to find more genuinely dog-friendly places to stay!

And if you haven’t yet dipped your toe into the world of competitive obedience, you should try it. Jump in the water’s lovely.
